TITLE OF THE EXPO: Lydia Lopokova's dress that took on the role of Sylphide in "Les Silphides".
AUTHOR'S NAME: Based on a design by Benois (1870-1960).
DATE OR PERIOD: 1909-1920.
ESTYLE: Classic ballet dress.
OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION:
It's made with silk, cotton, tarlatana and metal structure for the wings. It's a romantic tutu with its accessories and was transformed in the course of decades to reflect the contemporany fashions . These double wings indicate that the dress is an early or primary version. Lopokova danced the first performance with this dress of the work presented by the Russian ballet in Madrid on 1916.
SUBJECTIV DESCRIPTION AND PERSONAL OPINION:
Although I think this dress's design is very simple (I guess it is because the dancers could move better) I think it's fabulous too because I like so much the mitologi like ninphs, fairies, elves...
The ballet "Les Sylphides" hasn't got plot and only it's about a lot of sylphs and a poet dancing a choreography prepared for the occasion by Mijaíl Fokin.
I don't know why but for some reason this ballet reminds my "A Midsummer Night´s Dream" of Shakespeare although this play has got more content.
